OE MISSION

Established in 2006 OverExposure is nonprofit organization whose primary mission is to create theme specific documentary photography projects that engage the community.

We approach projects as engaged practice and carry out our mission with partnerships between artists, photographers, public institutions, nonprofit service and neighborhood organizations, and area learning institutions.

HOW WE DO IT?

  • Initiates and organizes theme specific photography projects and exhibitions
  • Provides fellowships and grants to documentary photographers whose work examines regional social issues
  • Facilitates community and public forums on issues related to themes of each project
  • Develops and creates youth workshops and internships
  • Provides media services to area nonprofit organizations whose budget precludes media expenses

WHY WE DO IT

OverExposure uses documentary photography to explore common interests and differences. Through programs, individual projects, exhibitions, and community forums, OverExposure brings divergent groups together in one venue. Our projects engage community, educate the public on regional issues, provide opportunities to area artists, and present public art exhibitions and community forums that foster dialogue and suggest positive social change.

OverExposure supports artists whose creative work examines racial, ethic, and economic differences and fosters positive social change. Each project includes public art exhibitions and community forums based on the themes of the project. By presenting photographs that explore common interests and differences our projects educate, enlighten, and engage the public to broader social issues. OverExposure projects interface art, research, social service and community and are a means to help shape perception and impact public policy.
